Different Types of Ghosts

In this hub, I m attempting to provide some details on various ghostly entities.

Ghosts are something which have traveled through history with us, every culture and civilization has reported or mentioned them, yet we still don't believe.

Ectoplasm,Vapour and Ghostly Mist

This phenomena is usually associated with a swirling mist or fog. Reported cases see it as appearing several feet above the ground, and is usually seen outside. It can be either stationary or moving at high speed and has been seen is grey, white or black colours. Ghostly Mist has been caught on video and still camera's, but can easily be created by breathe vapour on a cold day. Smoking can also be mistaken for this effect, although smoking doesn't normally cause swirls. Ectoplasm is believed to be the first sign of a full bodied ghostly apparitions.

Orbs

Orbs are by far the most common allegedly supernatural entity caught on either video or still film.

Digital cameras do struggle to capture a clear image, but it is possible. The orb can only be described as a small illuminated ball, which can either stay stationary or even move around. The direction and speed of an orb can vary greatly, and some still photographs include the presence of a tail. Their movements seem to be quite haphazard, sometimes in a straight or gently curving line, but other times they can move in quite a vigorous energetic manner. Many different things have been suggested about orbs, some believe that they are the passed souls of decease people, or aliens who are visiting us in an convenient form. Other people have suggested that orbs are tree or nature spirits, released during the night.

Vortex or Funnel Ghosts

This is one entity which has yet to be definitively captured on video. The suggestions concerning this phenomena describe it as a black or grey swirling funnel, which changes length and rotation speed. When Funnels appear in photographs, they tend to be elongated and quite narrow, and reports suggest they leave a cold feeling when interacting with living people. They are usually spotted inside, and are believed to be lost relatives or former residents.

Shadow Ghosts or Dark Entities

This phenomena usually manifests as a dark shadow. They strongly resemble Ecto mist, but in this case they have a defined form. These ghosts are supposed to be sneaky and evasive, only being spotted from the corner of your eye, or through a mirror. They vary in length, but are usually between 2 and 10 feet. They have been seen predominantly indoors, but outside sightings have occurred. This type is usually accepted as the typical ghost.

Apparitions or Spirits

The vast majority of the worlds population may have seen an apparition, but not been aware of it. Mediums and Psychic investigators claim to see them all of the time. When seen these figure are usually dressed in the apparel of their time, and are either normally afflicted with the injuries suffered at the point of death, or appear completely unharmed. This type of ghost is usually associated with older public buildings, such as theatres, hotels and hospitals.

Ghost Lights

Every culture in history has reported this phenomena. These lights have been explained as gasses vented from swamps, or ball lightening, static electricity or magnetic effects. Many different scientific attempts have been made to capture one of these lights, but regardless of every type of attempt being made, the lights always stay just out of reach. These lights have been given the Latin name 'Ignis Fatuus', which means 'foolish fire', suggesting people have tried to capture them before.

Other names for this phenomena include, will O the wisp and jack O lanterns, even inspiring an old English tale, where Jack was a particularly evil man, whoo on dying was refused entry into heaven and also hell. Being forced to walk the Earth, he uses the lights to lure people into swampy areas, to possibly obtain company or revenge.

As with so much in our world, Ghosts, spirits etc all come down to 'do you believe?'.
